Munchtures Evasion is a cute little mini game that we put together in a day. There’s not much to it. You are a little Munchie and you lure the Munchtures to bombs to blow them up while making sure they don’t eat you. The bombs can damage you taking a bit of life but when a Munchture gets a hold of you it’s game over. The game is laid out in waves. You start with one Munchture and once you blow him up the wave is over and a new one begins with 2 Munchtures, then 3 etc. The waves will keep coming as long as you keep going so see how long you can last and then submit your name to the high score board to see if you made the top ten. Look out for more Munchtures games, you’ll be seeing a lot of these hungry little guys around here.

You may have noticed the facebook posting which included some promo shots of our new game Bumper Punks which will be released very soon. Right now I’m the sole artist/modeler/animator on the project as I have been on every previous project. But that is changing as we speak. My talent is modeling. I’m not really a great artist. I’ve had to do all these art related tasks on each of these games and it’s been a struggle but what I don’t know I learn. A lot of people don’t realize that all of the games on this site were made by two people. At this time there are only two things that I can’t claim and that is the glyphs (Obsidian Dawn) in the Labyrinth games and the tree (Arteria) in Pumpkin Chuckin. For my first blog post I thought it would be a good idea to share what I do and some of the tools I use. Also, it’s a great opportunity to give a sneak peek of a new level that I created for Bumper Punks. The level is a skate park which was inspired by one of our interns Travis. I spent three hours today creating it. First I went to Google and did an image search for “skate park” I came across this image which I used for my inspiration. I’m actually pretty good at estimating the distance between objects in a picture most of the time. This one was a bit tricky though. I modeled each item starting with the ramps followed by the railings, the ground, and finally the fence. After everything was modeled I created the textures for them. When examining the original photo I look for models that can share textures. In the end for all of the ramps and platforms I only needed one 512×512 texture. To create it I did need to extract a section of the ramp from the original photo. The rest of the textures I created, no outside image sources were used. That includes the cement, the black railings, and the wire fencing.

I decided that I would blog about a light puzzle game that I made a few weeks ago. It’s a game similar to Othello, Black Out, Lights Out and a number of other games. The idea is very simple. You have a grid of lights and you have to turn the all off. To turn a light off all you have to do is click on it. The trick is that whenever you switch a light (on or off) the lights that are around it also switch. Below is the demo of the game. It has 3 complete levels, a main menu and a end screen that shows how many clicks it took for you to complete the game. The demo took about 2 – 3 hours to make in total. That includes graphics, programming and adding some final touches.

IFX has released it’s second commercial game called Egyptian Labyrinth. This is a challenging little game in the style of the old wooden labyrinth game. Instead of moving the board you control the ball. There are three modes. The first is treasure where you roll around the board avoiding pits to collect all the idols. Once you have collected them all you can move onto the next level. There are a total of 50 levels in all. The second mode is timed. It is exactly the same as the first mode only now you have a time limit. There is no room for mistakes. If you fall into a pit you will not make the time. It also forces you to familiarize yourself with the board. Idols will need to be picked up in a certain order if you want to clear the level in time. It consists of the same 50 levels as treasure mode. The third mode is pyramid. There are no pits to avoid, pyramid is essentially a pyramid shaped maze. You have to travel through warp points which will move you around the level and collect colored keys to unlock the matching colored blocks. The levels get bigger and more intricate. While there are also 50 levels in this mode it can take weeks to beat them all. We hope you enjoy the game and feel free to leave feedback for the sequel.
